Preparing for Double the Workload – Thoughts on 2020 and 2021

One thing is for sure: There will be a time after the pandemic. It is worthwhile to start thinking ahead and prepare the coming months and the year 2021. We have found an interesting study and had a chat with service providers in the industry – so let’s think about it together…

We found a study from wedding.report in the USA. They asked 709 couples and 421 service providers to the changed dates of weddings in 2020, and these are the results:

Thoughts on 2020 and 2021

To sum up: More than half of the weddings will be postponed. But what does it mean for all of us? We have asked service providers. Below you will find their answers and recommendations:

Thoughts on 2020 and 2021

Wedding photographers: Carmen & Ingo

“What we hear from our community – which are approximately 2.000 photographers – is confirmed by this study. Our “Learn how we do it” members report about a massive postponement and accumulation of dates at the end of 2020 up until 2021. We recommend that our community fix alternative dates as soon as possible. Only this way, they can plan future projects and, therefore, income. When it comes to ProImageEditors, we will also use them in the coming months and 2021. People can use their valuable time with better and more lucrative things than image editing. For six years, we have been giving our image editing to PIE, and we are consistently happy. We only do the preparatory work and a final check, which saves us a lot of time and increases our efficiency.”

Wedding planner: Charlotte Brom (Glanzmomente)

“Right now, I cannot give an overview of Germany as my team, and I only focus on specific weddings each year. But obviously the weddings that should have taken place from March to June are postponed to the last quarter of 2020 or next year. Based on what I hear from my couples, I can see two trends in this current situation:

1. Couples who have organized their wedding by themselves before and have to postpone are deciding to give the planning over to a professional planner. Due to the postponement and the uncertainty, the frustration is high, and couples are looking for someone professional, who can handle service providers, and calm nerves.

2. Couples hold on to the idea of a “big wedding” – the weddings are still taking place in the same size in 2020 or 2021. Many also still hope for Saturdays as an alternative date. However, due to capacity issues, this won’t be possible so that people will have to move to Fridays or other days during the week. In 2021, we can defiantly expect a full calendar – where we will not only have busy Saturdays.”

Kindergarten photographer: Janine Wienick (kleinepuenktchen)

“All our kindergarten jobs are on hold now – they are not canceled, but we also don’t know when they will take place. Everybody is waiting for new regulations, and luckily we have loyal customers that will work hard on finding alternative dates as soon as possible. However, I don’t think that I will back in the kindergartens before September.

One thing is for sure: As soon as we can start again, we will have a lot to catch up on until Christmas and in 2021. Parents will want quality memories, and of course, Christmas presents for grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Furthermore, it seems like the emotional and family values of professional images have increased during this crisis.

We have used those past weeks to prepare and adjust our new and innovative concepts. We wanted to start with these during the spring. Coincidentally we realized that the concept works perfectly for these unique circumstances. We can work from a bigger distance without losing the personal connection to the children. Of course, we will also adjust our equipment and disinfection regulations accordingly.

Furthermore, we are using the time to match our individual workflow for the new products with ProImageEditors. When we are going back to work, we will have to deal with many other things so that PIE will still be doing all out image editing. The new products we offer to parents can now be implemented economically thanks to PIE.

We are looking forward to when we can go back to work. During this crisis, one thing has become clear: We love what we do and wouldn’t have it any other way.”

After the study and the opinions in this post, we can conclude: It is time to prepare! Right now, we could say it is the calm before the storm. Booking situations are likely to shift, and we will have a lot to do in 2021 and at the end of the year. We are no economic experts, but even if the economy is decreasing, it is in no relation to dates that have to be made up.

At the moment, we can handle test orders with no problems (29th May 2020). Please note that it might take a little longer than usual. We are looking forward to your orders! You can find up to date information in our order entry system and on Social Media. If you would like to give us a try, follow the link below. Additionally, you can look forward to some great things we have in store for you!
